A study found that people who drink tea regularly (at least once a week for more than 10 years) had 20% less body fat than people who didn't drink tea.
The study accounted for differences in lifestyle like age, physical activity and food intake. The study included a variety of teas including black, green and herbal teas. The study was done at the Obesity Research center, department of Family Medicine in Taiwan and reported in "Obesity Research". It concluded that tea may increase the body's metabolic rate while lowering absorption of sugars and fat-producing molecules.
Although obesity is a chronic condition, it is frequently thought of as a temporary problem that can be treated for a few months with strenuous exercise and a diet. But weight control is a life-long effort. To be safe and effective, any weight-loss program must be a long-term approach.
Obesity affects about one in four adult Americans, and during any one year, over half of Americans go on a weight-loss diet or are trying to maintain their weight. For many people who try to lose weight, it is difficult to lose more than a few pounds!

Proper Nutrient Intake is Essential for Healthy Weight Control, Especially for Low Carb Dieting!
Did you know that as people eat less carbohydrates, they might be sacrificing a critical intake of important nutrients needed for good health, vitality, metabolic functioning and weight-loss efficiency?
Since Low-Carb dieting may also increase the risk of elevating cholesterol, cardiovascular problems and diabetes...It is important to replenish essential vitamins, minerals and protective antioxidants every day to maintain optimum nutrient density, necessary for maintaining general health and well-being. These vital nutrients have multi-faceted health benefits and are required to assist metabolic functioning to help break down the fats and proteins being consumed into the energy (fuel) the body needs. They're necessary to help neutralize the damaging effects of free radicals released into the system during metabolism and weight-loss.
Many VITAMIN POWER products are particularly valuable for low-carb dieting to help ensure optimum daily nutrient density for maximizing effectiveness as well as maintaining health and wellness.
Losing Weight Can Cure Obstructive Sleep Apnea In Overweight Patients, A New Study Reveals...
For those people who sufferer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), new research shows that losing weight is perhaps the single most effective way to reduce OSA symptoms and associated disorders, according to a new study appearing in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
Weight loss is the most valuable therapy for sufferers of OSA both because of both its short-term and long-term effectiveness and for its relatively low cost. In comparison, the beneficial effects of surgery doesn't usually last and the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines as well as most other devices are only as effective as the individual patient's adherence. In addition to being very expensive, unwieldy and having poor patient compliance, these devices have had disappointing outcomes for the majority of patients.
A healthy, low-fat, low calorie diet combined with active lifestyle resulting in marked weight reduction is a feasible and cost-effective treatment for the majority of patients with mild OSA and the beneficial outcomes achieved are typically maintained at the one year follow-up.
The new study revealed that in 81 patients with mild OSA, the 40 patients who participated in the healthy lifestyle intervention treatment underwent a diet that strictly limited caloric intake combined with physical exercise and counseling lost more than 20 pounds on average in a year and managed to keep it off, resulting in markedly lower symptoms of OSA.
Conversely, the 41 patients in the control group of the study, who only received lifestyle counseling and only lost an average of less than 6 pounds, were therefore much less likely to experience improvements in their OSA.
It's important to note... not only does sustained weight loss improve OSA, it also improves the other independently-linked cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Significant improvements were also found in symptoms related to OSA, insulin resistance, lipids, and cardio-respiratory problems, such as arterial oxygen saturation, in patients belonging to the intervention group.
Not surprisingly, the greater the reduction in body weight and waist circumference, the greater was the improvement in OSA. In fact, mild OSA was objectively cured in 88 percent of the patients who lost more than 33 pounds. In comparison, only in 62 percent of those who lost between 11 and 33 pounds were objectively cured of their OSA, as were 38 percent of those who lost between zero and 11 pounds. For those patients whose loud snoring was disturbing enough to have wakened the bedfellows of study participants, totally vanished in 26 percent of those patients, but in only three percent of the control group.
Conclusively, a more aggressive treatment of obesity in patients with OSA is well-founded. Lifestyle intervention with an early very low calorie diet is a feasible, low-cost, and curative treatment for the vast majority of patients with mild OSA and it can be implemented in a primary care setting after diagnosis of OSA. Effective, healthy weight reduction also results in an improvement of obesity-related risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
